Is data security a concern when recycling electronics?
Yes, data security is crucial. Before recycling, ensure all personal and sensitive data is erased from your devices. Consider using factory resets or data wiping software to ensure your information is protected. Keep in mind that eSmart Recycling will destroy your personal information because of our Data Destruction Commitment, so you can rest assured your personal information will be handled following our HIPAA Compliant data destruction and chain of custody process. Are there any fees for recycling electronics?
There is usually no fee associated with the drop-off of your electronics, except for very large and bulky items that need special handling, such as CRT TVs or Monitors (the big and bulky kind). We recommend you reach out to the Community Collection Partner prior to stopping by if you are planning to recycle any of the items mentioned above as some may have additional fees for TVs.
What happens to my old electronics after recycling?
After you drop them off, our truck will pick them up, and bring it to our main processing facility. Here we will audit each load, inventory, destroy the data via shredding, and assess its value to either sell as commodities, part out, or refurbish. Then 30% of the proceeds are used to refurbish computers and deploy to kids and families in the community without access to technology.
